Ellie on the deck
RIP Sweet Ellie-
Lived 6 + years, laid tons of great eggs, tended the garden for bugs and weeds. What a sweetie, died peacefully, out in the coop, no trauma thankfully. She'd been limping around for over a year, otherwise very healthy. Her pal Rosie will still have her three newer hens to keep her company. This is why I added to the flock, knowing this day would come. Part of the wheel of life....

Always good to hear that one of our feathered friends didn't seem to suffer when they reached the end of their life span. We have several "old girls" in our flock at this time and we always feel good when the count assures us all is well when they all come zooming out the door. Glad Rosie still has her other friends.
Yes. I do a head count every day and obviously my flock is smaller than yours which is 4 now. They always come running out for treats!
Sweet girl. So sorry for your loss.
Such a lovely girl. She had a good life with you.
Thanks I appreciate that!
Thanks Susan she was very well loved and taken care of she sure did love her treats! Even with her gimpy leg she would still run across the chicken area for a snack!
Isn't it amazing how attached we are to our chickens! I love chicken tv too.
Thanks Joe! Especially when you have a small flock. Traditionally we've had three this year we've had five
I feel so sad for you Nancy...she was a beauty. xxx Sending hugs. xxx
Thanks Rain xxx
Aww, such sad news. :( Even though we know it's going to happen someday, it's still always sad to see them go. Adding to the flock ahead of time was a good decision on your part.
Thanks, I didn't wnat to have one lone hen, she'd be so lonely
Im so sorry for your loss. I have 7 first time chicken mama. I have never lost any. I dead the day I do. They are family to me. What a pretty girl she was.
Thanks Judy yes it is already but it is the way things go sometimes. I lost two of my original flock in the first 2 year or so due to my own inexperience with worms. Once I figured out what was happening I started using a dewormer year-round in their feed that's all natural and seemed to solve that problem
