California's Drought= Food Shortage

Folsom Lake, California

California's Drought= Food Shortage-
I was listening to this on NPR radio today- California's Drought Ripples Through Businesses & Schools  I don't know of the mainstream news is playing this down or I'm just not seeing this on the national news? Anyway, this is going to really affect the amount of food grown in the area so heavily relied on by many Americans. Crops are shipped all over the country traditionally. If you read up on this and see how bad this is getting, you might want to stock up on some things, or grow your own. When farmers are letting land go fallow for lack of water, then things will get pretty bad, pretty fast. Stop and think about this-

Nearly HALF this country's fruits, nuts and vegetables come from California

That should be a sobering thought. If you much more self sufficient and grow most of your own food, it probably won't matter. If not, you'd better start planning...

I don't know about all of California, but the orange and nut trees around here are doing good. It's true we are in drought right now so we will have to wait and see how the rest of the year gos.

I am so thankful I have been able to harvest our own pears. This year I do plan to plant another fruit tree. I am also thankful to get locally grown English walnuts here.

When I was a teenager, I used to walk down to a park on Folsom Lake and swim. That picture is really shocking. I don't remember it ever getting that low in the 60's.

There was an article on one of the news web pages that addressed the drought in California and predicted very high food prices as a result. I have already stopped buying beef.

Yes, it's good to grow anything you can. With our new pear tree last year, we have 3 fruit trees. We're increasing our garden this year, and I'll plant something the hens used to dig up, in another area. No chickens allowed! :)

Yes Harry, the pic shows how bad it is. And this is spring? Summer will stink down there...

We sure don't see much on the news about this, do we? I'm expanding the garden this year and stocking up as well. Good for you for helping to get the word out. Thank you for sharing this at the HomeAcre Hop; I hope you'll join us again this Thursday.

I stock up on a regular basis for many reasons...canning my own, buying in bulk, gardening like our food source depends on it...and yet the drought in CA is concerning me too. I do like to buy some fruits and veggies, especially in the winter.

I have read about this news, but not on the mainstream networks.

I think this kind of news doesn't "sell"...
