Veggie Garden Review For Next Year-
I'm reviewing things and ready for winter. It was so incredibly HOT here and I got so sick of watering, and the really late harvest. The new plan- no grape/cherry tomatoes/eggplants, as they took to long to fruit, and little harvest. They were also too tall and rangy. Did great with the other tomatoes- paste, yellow and medium varieties. Planted too many hot peppers, plant more tomatoes next year. No more cabbage, took to long and ate up space, but did well with the collard greens, they are awesome! It's good to review what worked and what didn't for better use of space next year....
Congrats on your 200th post. I read you all the time but for some reason I haven't for a few days now. Darn it. How wonderful. Now I have learned that each year is different (unless you live California) especially here in Oklahoma. Our summer sucked too, way too hot but I hope we'll have a more normal year next year. I tend to plant more towards what I like to eat and put up, then how it did the year before. I might plant a different variety or in a different location, or maybe earlier or later in the season. It's such a challenge and maybe that is why I love growing vegetables so much.

ReplyDeleteOne or two hot pepper plants always seems to be plenty! I planted more tomatoes this year and was happy with the results. I have been using the cherry tomatoes to make fresh pasta sauces and it works well. It's always a learning experience when we garden...

ReplyDeleteIt seems that we planted too many hot pepper plants also. But even if one buys a four-pack like they usually come, it's still too many! I've got hot peppers coming out of my ears....and I don't even eat them!! :)
ReplyDeleteWe do that too. This year we had problems with squash, and forgot to plant turnips (in our haste to plant 132 tomato plants). We did get enough of the romas, but could have used more.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! And congrats to the winner, too! I always review the garden, and try to keep in mind the oddities of the season, too. I am going to cut back on the number of things I plant. Last year, the tomatoes were lousy - this year, terrific! It's a gamble.
